UKSE support takes Cambuslang students on literary adventure at Wee Write Festival.
More than 190 students from Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire helped to expand their school libraries at this year’s Wee Write festival after receiving £2,500 of funding from UKSE.
Students from St Anthony’s Primary School and Spittal Primary School attended the festival, which is hosted annually by Glasgow Life. The funding allowed students to attend some of Wee Write’s flagship events, covering transport costs and books to add to their school library, including an event at the Emirates Arena, where the students were joined by Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games mascot, Finnie the unicorn.
The Wee Write Festival, which took place between 2 – 7 March, is part of the wider Aye Write book festival programme and has been taking place in venues across Glasgow, including the Mitchell Library, for over a decade.
The festival remains a key event in Glasgow’s cultural calendar, dedicated to inspiring a love of reading among children throughout primary and secondary school, improving access to books, and enhancing literacy skills. This marks the seventh year that UKSE has provided funding to the festival.
Marc Davey, regional executive at UKSE, said: “Our continued support of the Wee Write festival enables young people throughout Cambuslang to foster a love of reading through this fantastic event.
“Having strong literacy skills supports young people in every chapter of their lives, giving them the tools to succeed at school and beyond. Investment in events like Wee Write supports the future of our communities and helps young people to discover the joys of storytelling and literacy that will stay with them for years to come.”
Ian Lebeter, libraries and communities manager at Glasgow Life, said: “We are delighted to continue working with UKSE to ensure that more children and young people have access to Wee Write.
“Our much-loved book festival, which Glasgow Life Libraries delivers with support from Creative Scotland, opens the door for children to meet inspiring authors and illustrators, nurturing a lifelong love of reading and sparking the creativity that could shape the next generation of storytellers and artists.”
