UKSE helps Condorrat Primary School become greener and cleaner.
UKSE is proud to support Condorrat Primary School in Cumbernauld with a £2,500 funding package to nurture its Eco Warriors campaign, helping pupils and staff enhance the sustainability merits of the school.
The funding will aid the school’s ambitions to become an official Eco Schools partner, instilling lifelong positive skills in pupils. As part of this, Condorrat Primary School has established a dedicated Eco Warriors committee, comprising of 12 pupils from P4-6.
Alongside teachers, the committee will be tasked with formalising an action plan that has four main objectives; to tackle environmental issues, enhance nature, increase biodiversity, and to reduce energy and waste consumption.
Already, pupils have helped to install improved recycling facilities across the school and plan to introduce compost bins for food waste created during break or lunch times, helping to contribute to a circular economy.
The committee will also organise activities designed to help improve the wider community, such as litter picks. This is part of ambitions to help the school achieve the Eco Schools’ highly coveted Green Flag status.
UKSE launched its dedicated sustainability strategy in 2023 and provides dedicated funding to growing companies seeking support for green projects.
Michele Johnson, UKSE, said: “It’s brilliant to see the emphasis that Condorrat Primary School is placing on becoming more sustainable, this aligns with UKSE’s Sustainable Development Goals, which include good health and wellbeing, quality education and climate action.
“I am really looking forward to watching the school’s journey to Green Flag status take off, UKSE is really proud to support its efforts.”
Craig Collin, teacher at Condorrat Primary School, said: “Helping reduce our footprint on the environment is incredibly important to us as a school. Through a dedicated programme of activities as led by our Eco Warriors, we’re striving for Green Flag status to underline our commitment to sustainability.
“The funding from UKSE is greatly appreciated and will help us to significantly advance our eco-friendly practices across the school for pupils, staff and the wider community to benefit from.”
