Three students at Teesside University have received a welcome financial boost to support their studies and career ambitions thanks to the award of a bursary from UKSE.

The new bursaries awarded from UKSE’s Community Support Fund, are just one of the activities chosen to mark the 50th anniversary year.
The bursary payments of £1000 provide additional support to high achieving students to help them succeed in their studies and also aim to help achieve the skills levels needed by businesses in the region. The bursaries can be used for expenses ranging from equipment to travel costs.

Students George Winspear, MEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering; Hami Ahsan, BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering and Harry Passman, BEng (Hons) Instrumental and Control, Engineering are all in the second year of their studies.

“This bursary will be a great help as I start the next stages of my course which I am really enjoying,” said Harry Passman, “and I hope my career path will enable me to contribute to the success of Teesside industry in the future. The bursary will help me purchase course material and software as well as contribute to vital travelling costs and I am very grateful to UKSE.”

Regional Manager Sarah Thorpe said: “UKSE has supported thousands of businesses in the past 50 years with finance and workspace to help them grow and create jobs. Our Community Support Fund backs a wide range of projects for people of all ages and needs in our steel communities.

“We recognise that businesses need the vital skills that Teesside University and others are helping to provide and are delighted to be able to offer these bursaries for such promising students.”

Helen Jamison, Development Officer at Teesside University, recently named University of the Year at The Times Higher Education awards, said: “We are very grateful for UKSE’s generous support. A financial boost like this can have a real impact on students and their studies.”
