Tail-wagging success for North Lincolnshire dog grooming service.
Barking Boulevard set for success following the increase in dog ownership
Driven by a passion for animals, a North Lincolnshire entrepreneur has launched a new dog grooming service in response to the increased demand for dog care services.
Based in Barton-Upon-Humber, Nicola Tingay established Barking Boulevard after she explored various vocational paths, soon acquiring her Level 2 in Dog Grooming, and finally the advance Level 3 qualification at Dogoholics in Hull.
Nicola launched her business with full support from her family, operating out of a purpose-built building attached to her parents’ residential property.
After launching in December 2023, Barking Boulevard has gained significant attention on social media, and this has been responsible for a large percent of bookings.
Nicola applied for a UKSE Kickstart Grant – a business that provides finance of up to £1.5m to growing companies and support for start-ups – this enabled her to purchase high-quality Heiniger grooming clippers, which are quieter than other tools and less stressful for nervous dogs.
With a steady client base established, Nicola anticipates that her business will move into a retail premises in the town centre within three to five years and hopes that she will be able to employ staff members and move into retailing pet associated products.
Commenting on the venture, Nicola said: “It feels great to start a business that I am truly passionate about, and I would like to extend a huge thank you to my family for their support, as well as the straightforward support from UKSE.
“In the future I hope to add further shops in towns and villages where markets dictate. Dog ownership increased exponentially during the Covid lockdown years, resulting in a much higher demand for grooming services.”
Steve Lyon, Area Manager at UKSE, said: “Barking Boulevard’s success is a true testament to Nicola’s commitment, and is a fantastic example of someone turning their passion into a business.
“We wish Nicola all the success moving forward.”
UKSE also provides loan and equity finance of up to £1.5m to existing companies which are growing, particularly those creating jobs – for further information please contact the team on 0114 270 0933.
