North Lincolnshire butcher expands after UKSE support.
A Scunthorpe-based butcher has secured £1,000 funding from UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) for additional equipment to help manage increasing demand, and to build the hospitality arm of the business.
Taylor’s Family Butchers – specialising in supplying locally sourced meat to the public, pubs and restaurants – has used the funding to purchase a vacuum packer machine, a piece of equipment that business owner Ashley Taylor describes as being ‘essential to breaking the hospitality market and building a strong restaurant and hotel-based clientele.’
Taylor’s Family Butchers prides itself on providing a unique home delivery service and significant discounts for large orders. Situated in a prime spot on Ashby High Street, the business has recently increased from three to fifteen employees since first opening in August 2016 to manage the growing demand for its goods.
Ashley Taylor commented, “It’s quite incredible how much of a success Taylor’s Family Butchers is becoming, we’ve received an overwhelming response from the local community in the last year, with queues often out of the door on Saturdays!
“The funding has been vital to our establishment, and has allowed us to expand our customer reach as we now have many restaurant, pub and hotel clients. Due to our initial success we are planning to open another butchers shop in the local area, alongside an online shop, too. I cannot thank UKSE enough for the funding they have supplied us with.”
Launched in February 2016 the UKSE Kickstart Fund – working in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council and the Growth Hub to support those looking to establish a business in the area – provides grants up to £1,000.
Applicants also receive help and advice from local Growth Hub advisors and the Economic Development team at North Lincolnshire Council.
The Kickstart Fund – originally totalling £40,000 – has recently been boosted with the addition of further funding, reflective of its popularity amongst budding entrepreneurs and growing businesses in the region.
Allan Wood, a representative from UK Steel Enterprise, commented: “Taylor’s Family Butchers is a great addition to Scunthorpe and it’s brilliant to hear about its popularity amongst the local community as well as business owners.
“Within its first year of trading, the butchers shop has created fifteen job opportunities in the local area, and with its growing customer base we are looking forward to seeing how it plans to move forward.”
