Iron And Steel Man Alan Launches New Business.
Iron Man Alan Johnston is currently making good use of the determination and strength he uses to compete in triathlons to get his new business, Sackkall Engineering Project Services Ltd, off to a good start.
Alan, a chartered mechanical engineer, has also built up more than two decades of experience and expertise in engineering and manufacturing before deciding to set up his own business. It is a winning combination that has attracted support and start-up finance from UK Steel Enterprise’s Regeneration Fund.
Sackkall Engineering Project Services, based in Guisborough, is providing a wide range of engineering and project management consultancy services. Everything from consultancy and guidance in asset management, system design and implementation and business development to plant reliability, preventative maintenance and project management.
Alan, who has degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science and worked for British Steel for 20 years, has worked on improvement projects that have helped businesses to realise savings of up to £1m a year. During his career he has built up a wealth of contacts and is growing that network through local business events and organisations including the Chamber of Commerce and NEPIC.
UK Steel Enterprise, the Tata Steel business-support subsidiary, has provided £4,200 from its Regeneration Fund to help with start-up costs including gaining certification for the business in BS ISO 55000:2014 Asset Management and accreditation in BS ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
“There is a lot to do in the initial stages of getting a business of the ground and I was determined to have the best accreditations in place so the UK Steel Enterprise funding has been very welcome,” Alan said. “Once I had talked to UKSE, the process was quick and easy and the support really boosts your confidence too.”
Peter Taylor, UK Steel Enterprise’s Business Development Manager, said: “Our Regeneration Fund provides the smaller amounts of funding that new and smaller businesses need. Alan not only has a wealth of experience acquired from years working in the steel industry and excellent qualifications but is also acquiring valuable accreditations. We wish him every success with his new business.”
