Children’s author enthrals youngsters thanks to UKSE.
Welsh children’s author Maggie Jenkins enthralled primary school pupils with a reading and discussion of her latest book for young people.
Ginger Like Biscuits, tells of the adventures, and misadventures, of a Welsh Mountain pony, and the stories were a big hit with the children.
The session at Hafod Primary School, Pontypridd, was organised by literacy charity World of Words (WOW), and made possible by a £1000 donation by Tata Steel subsidiary UKSE. The money, from UKSE’s Community Fund, will support a range of upcoming projects by WOW at Hafod Primary over the coming term including bringing other speakers to the school and organising outings and cultural trips.
Rob Jones of WOW explained the vision of the organisation. “WOW offers a well-being programme that uses literacy and language to build confidence and self-esteem amongst children.
“WOW works with schools and other establishments to promote good reading habits from an early age, and provides wider social and educational experiences for young people,” he added.
WOW is a non-profit organisation that relies on fundraising, and has helped over 4000 youngsters and their families over 15 years.
Alan Jenkins UKSE Regional Executive said he was delighted to support the excellent programmes put in place by WOW. “Our Community Fund is very active in assisting local clubs and charities throughout South Wales.
“These grass roots organisations are the beating heart of our communities, and we are very pleased to give what help we can so they can continue their vital work”.
