Sheffield-based charity WORK Ltd has expanded its provision with the launch of a new city-centre base at the UKSE Innovation Centre, supporting the growth of its learner-led digital media project, Digital Voices Sheffield.

WORK Ltd supports adults with learning disabilities through creative learning, practical day opportunities, independence development and employability-focused experiences. The organisation develops learner-led projects designed to help adults build confidence, communication skills, social connections and greater independence.

The move into the Innovation Centre marks a significant step forward for the charity’s creative and digital offer, building on the success of its existing KREATE digital media programme.

Digital Voices Sheffield has been developed in direct response to learner demand for larger projects, increased teamwork opportunities and more realistic workplace experiences. The programme focuses on media production, storytelling and community engagement, allowing learners to take part in filming, podcasting, photography, editing and community storytelling projects.

The city-centre location will also improve access to public transport and workplace-style experiences, helping learners build confidence and independence while increasing visibility and inclusion for adults with learning disabilities within mainstream community life.

The charity has taken a 1740 sq ft office within the Innovation Centre, benefiting from its central location, strong transport links and proximity to both universities, as well as its 24-hour access, serviced reception, high-speed broadband and CCTV operations.

Commenting on the move, Sarah-Jayne Field, Centre Manager at WORK Ltd, said: “From the moment we met the staff and wider UKSE team, it felt more like building relationships with friends than simply moving into a workspace. Their genuine enthusiasm for what we were trying to achieve, alongside the encouragement and support they showed us from the beginning, gave us the confidence to take the next step.

“The UKSE Innovation Centre provides a professional, accessible and centrally located environment that aligns perfectly with the ambitions of Digital Voices Sheffield.

“The space allows us to create a fully supported professional digital hub where learners can develop skills in media production, storytelling and community engagement while gaining valuable real-world experience.”

Amber Winfield, Social Media and Workspace Coordinator at UKSE, said: “WORK Ltd is doing fantastic work supporting adults with learning disabilities across Sheffield, and Digital Voices Sheffield is an exciting next step for the organisation. The project combines creativity, confidence-building and real-world skills in a way that will have a lasting impact on learners and the wider community.

“We’re delighted to support WORK Ltd at the Innovation Centre and look forward to seeing the programme continue to grow.”
