Lanarkshire primary school pupils mean business.
UKSE supports Entrepreneurme with £2,500 to teach youngsters fundamental life skills
More than 200 pupils from Lanarkshire primary schools are participating in a dedicated entrepreneurship programme, Entrepreneurme, thanks to a £2,500 funding boost from UKSE, a subsidiary of Tata Steel.
Primary five to seven pupils from Kirkshaws Primary School have now started the eight-week initiative. The interactive programme sees teams of pupils tasked with cash to establish a ‘real-life’ business venture, making vital decisions over product design, material cost, marketing, and sales.
Guided by a team of experts, including founder Matt Stewart, pupils learn fundamental business skills to help bring their product to market. Equally, the course encourages creativity, responsibility, problem solving, communication, enthusiasm, teamwork, and a positive mental attitude – all important qualities for students as they progress through school, higher education, and the world of work.
The event culminates with teams selling their product to peers, parents, and teachers at a dedicated assembly, where the excitement and competition creates a fun yet educational day. All proceeds raised are donated to a local charity of choice within the community.
Founded by Matt Stewart more than 20 years ago, Entrepreneurme has completed successful programmes in all local authorities across Scotland. This is the second time UKSE has provided funding for the programme.
Matt Stewart, founder and chief executive of Entrepreneurme, said: “Many years ago, I set out on a mission to help teach our next generation the entrepreneurial skills that are the foundation of successful business leaders. I never cease being amazed at the wonderful reception we get from teachers, pupils, and parents alike.
“As well as helping pupils understand basic business and budgeting skills, the programme helps to build confidence amongst the pupils in a fun and exciting environment.
“We are incredibly grateful to our funding partners who help Entrepreneurme to continue to make a difference, and UKSE’s latest support is enabling a new group of pupils to gain experiences that I hope will be beneficial to their future education and careers.”
Scott Webb, regional manager at UKSE, said: “It’s fantastic to learn about the positive impact Entrepreneurme has on local youngers who get their first taste of the business world. Supporting our next generation of business leaders is important to UKSE and we look forward to hearing about the exciting business models Lanarkshire pupils bring to the table in the latest round of the incentive.”
